We are excited to announce our new book Living by the Code is now 100% complete!

This book is very different than the technical tutorial books we usually create. Living by the Code is a collection of 40+ interviews with some of the top mentors in the mobile community, such as Felix Krause, Annyce Davis, Fernando Cejas, Cate Huston, and many more.

As early reader Victoria Gonda put it, “It’s like sitting in a room with all these great leaders and getting to chat with them (without the intimidation).”

Read on to learn more about this new release and how this book may be just what you need to make your best career move, no matter how unique your path is or how long you’ve been in the industry.

About Living by the Code

It’s hard to make it as a developer, and even harder to find mentors who can give you the straight advice on what it takes to go from good, to great, to amazing.

That’s why we created Living by the Code. It’s like chatting over coffee with your favorite people in tech — but better.

We ask unique, personalized questions to each individual, to understand how they got to where they are today—their philosophies on life and work, the resources that help them move forward, and the tactics they apply to be successful.

Here’s a sample page from the book, which weighs in at over 500 pages:

The book is chock full of expert advice on productivity, teamwork, leadership, career development, being a part of the community, and much more.

Whether you’re just starting out as a junior developer, or you’re thinking about going freelance, or you’re managing large teams and wondering how everyone else does it, you’ll find something in this book to help.

Now, to introduce you to the author that brought the idea for the book to us…

— Enrique López Mañas, Author of Living by the Code

“I realized that no single person, no matter how successful or influential, ever follows exactly the same path in their life.

So I interviewed dozens of developers, leaders and innovators for this book, to discover the advice and tips they would give to anyone else trying to make it in the tech world. Their stories are all amazing and all different.”

Why Read This Book?

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering if you’re on the “right” path, you are not alone.

It’s not just a handful of us who’ve thought the same thing—every single one of us has pondered these important questions, none of which have easy answers.

  • How can we make our daily routine as productive as possible?
  • How does a permanent job compare with contracting?
  • Do we strictly need to become managers to progress in our career?
  • What is good leadership? How can one achieve those traits?

With Living by the Code, you’ll learn how to get what you want out of your career, your teams, and your personal life as well.

Here’s what some early readers have said about the book:

“This book is an amazing read that spans across any beginner, junior developer, manager, and entrepreneur. I really love the experience each of the experts/influencers shared. Lots of the stories, tips and tricks hit home for me.

It is nice to see the experts in this book are not robots. They may seem pro almost intimidating on stage.. but I like how the book brings out the humanity and emotional side of developers and leaders in our industry.

This books gives me the motivation that I can do this too! There’s no silver bullet on anyone’s journey, sometimes you need to take a leap of faith and just try something new, or do it! Everyone in the book worked hard to get to where they are today and it was really cool to see how they felt, and how they got to where they are today.”

— Vincent Ngo

“The interviewees come from a wide range of backgrounds and the advice they give is broad stroke enough that anyone can apply it to their own situation, whatever that may be.

It was also really interesting to see how, while they all have different approaches and different advice, the same themes kept popping up. I’ve certainly been able to build up a wish list of books and materials to ask for for Christmas this year!”

— Ben MacKinnon

“This book is just an absolute blast. I can’t tell how nice it is to see someone as awesome as Enrique cooperate with the amazing team that Razeware has for editing and publishing. A match made in heaven, truly. And a wonderful outcome. (Not to mention all the people who are included in the book as interviewees!)”

— Márton Braun
