Hi Dani,

Nice tutorial! A couple of minor points ...

As you are using PhoneGap Build there isn't really any need to download PhoneGap. You are not using any of the device capabilities that are not already available via the HTML5 APIs, so you can develop this app entirely within a browser. On that note, it might be worth describing the general principle of how PhoneGap exposes the capabilities of mobile devices.

I'd also like to direct your readers to the ToDoMVC.com project. This project illustrates a number of different JavaScript MV* frameworks via a very similar application to the one you have shown. I think developers very rarely program directly against the DOM API these days - instead they choose an MVC framework that allows them to have a similar separation of concerns that you would expect when developing natively.

Anyhow, minor points, and a very good tutorial :-)

Why does the title say Cross-platform - this is an iPhone-app right? Did you even test it on android? Windows Phone? Blackberry?

Hello 'pussmun',
PhoneGap allows you to develop Cross-platform mobile apps.
Since RayWenderlich.com focuses mainly on iOS topics, so we only tested it on an iPhone.

On the other hand, and at a certain part in this tutorial, there's a screen that allows you to choose a platform (iOS, Android, Windows Phone,etc..) to deploy your build on.
Simply choose any platform you want, and it will magically build it for you.

On a personal level, I've tested Android. Once I selected Android, it directly generated an .APK file.
By copying this file to my Android phone's memory, I was successfully able to run this app.

Hope this reply was useful.
Thanks.

Hey Collin,

Thank you for this great and detailed comment.

The purpose behind downloading PhoneGap was just to demonstrate how to integrate it when developing apps.
I believe that readers now can simply tackle some "device capabilities" without worrying about the installation and setup of PhoneGap anymore.

Moreover, this tutorial was just an introduction for beginners, that's why DOM APIs where used directly.

Again, thanks for your comment.

Hey Dani, awesome job on the tutorial!
I have a little issue here - when I click the link saying "the necessary images here" it just redirects the browser back to the same page, I can't download the images.
Maybe the file got broken or the link is not good anymore?

I also just tried going through this tutorial and got as far as
"Download the necessary images here, "

Is anything going to be done about this?

@icanzilb and @trevor

I've let Ray know about the missing file.

In the meantime, you can download the completed project file (link at end of tutorial).
The image files are in the Zombie/www/img folder.

Have fun!
